About the composer
Ferenc Kersch (1853 – 1910) was a Hungarian composer and master of spiritual music. He was a student of Franz Liszt. Starting as a secondary school teacher, he later became a choirmaster, first in Nagyvára, and then in 1897, in the cathedral of Esztergom. In the Esztergom Basilica he laid down the foundation of an exemplary church music life both in terms of the liturgy and artistic quality. Besides a lot of sacred music pieces he composed 17 masses and 3 requiems.
About the Stabat Mater
This Stabat Mater is part of the "Concentus Sacri" series, showing the strong influence of Liszt. I love to listen to it.
The "Vatican"-text is used and only the stanza's 1, 3, 5 and 10 are performed, followed by the final "Amen".
