About the Stabat Mater

Date 1988
Performers Soprano, alto, tenor, baritone, bass, mixed choir and strings
Length 36.31 minutes
Particulars Each stanza is treated as a separate musical entity, so the work contains 20 sections. It is predominantly a choral work, the soloists coming in only for brief interventions.
Textual variations The exact version of the "Vatican"-text is used, though in stanza 18 the tenor comes in with the extra sentence "Inflammatus et accensus" from the "Analecta"-version.

Date 1989
Performers Violin and chamber orchestra
Length 15.33 minutes
Particulars The composer says about this piece: "In 1989 I selected parts of my composition to organize a new version for violin and chamber orchestra. It is a cycle of nine reflections, generally introspecive and with great lyrism. It makes possible an intense dialogue between the violin and the orchestra. In spite of the tragic main theme, it concludes both victorious and jubilating, as a symbol of human redemption through the suffering of Christ"
Textual variations No text is used.
