About the composer
Marek Sewen was born about 1935. He studied viola, composition and conducting. For some
years he lived in the USA where he worked for MGM. He founded several orchestras, like the
Warsaw Chamber Orchestra, which recorded a number of CD's and a well-known conductor. He
is regarded as one of Poland's leading composers, composing in a style which is described
as neo-classical with Romantic elements. Among his compositions are symphonic works as
well as music for theatre, film and TV.

| Particulars | The Stabat Mater op. 15 for soprano, mezzo-soprano, female choir and orchestra is divided into seven parts. The music is slow, somber and dramatic, and described as showing genuine emotion. The theme from the first part returns in the last part, where also the text of the first stanza is repeated. |
| Textual variations | The "Vatican"-version of the text is used, but the stanzas 4, 8 and 10 to 20 are omitted. The first stanza comes back at the end to conclude the work. |
