About the composer
Joseph Rheinberger was born on 17 March 1839 in Vaduz, Liechtenstein. He spent most of his
life in Munich, Germany where he died in 1901. He was composer, organ player and a
renowned teacher of counterpoint and held the position of Munich Court Kapellmeister. He
composed music for organ, church music and opera's.
Felipe Gasper wrote me, that Rheinberger composed another Stabat Mater in 1864
(c minor, opus 16). It is written for soprano, alto, tenor, baritone, choir and orchestra
and has 5 movements of 4 stanzas each..
