 About the Stabat Mater

Date 2001
Performers Soprano, cello, flute and hobo.
Length 39.21 minutes
Particulars The Stabat Mater consist of three main parts: an instrumental Introduction (largo, adagio, allegro and largo) and Final (allegro, vivace, allegro, adagio), played by cello and flute, and a middle  piece, where the text is sung by the soprano, accompanied by cello and hobo (adagio).  Generally, the composition has an atmosphere of loneliness and sorrow, especially by the important part the cello plays.
Textual variations The "Analecta"-version of the text is used. with following changes:
- Stanza 4, line 2: not "Et tremebat cum videbat" but "Pia Mater, dum videbat"
- Stanza 13, line 1: not "Fac me vere tecum flere" but "Fac me tecum, pie, flere"
- Stanza 14, line 2: not "Te libenter sociare" but "Et me tibi sociare"
The first stanza is repeated after stanza 15. After the "Amen" Serge Mühle adds the line "In sempiterna saecula" (In all eternity), like Rossini did in his Stabat Mater.
