Stabat Mater - Curious and Interesting Links
Surfing over the Web you can find links with all kind of subjects (poems, books,
paintings) related to the Stabat Mater. Some are good, some are not, some seem to have
nothing to do at all with the Stabat Mater poem or the music inspired by it. You can even
find a rather disgusting one: a "prayer", dedicated to a black virgin, an
English parody of the poem, with sadistic undertones, as can be seen from the accompanying
picture of a roped up naked female. Not my taste, and, I hope, not yours, too...
I give a short description, and, in some cases, my opinion of the site, but, of course,
you can decide for your self.
- Non Stop New York
reflects on: Stabat Mater
Part of the "Easter in New York" site, about the Stabat Mater. It looks nice,
but not so nice is the fact that they copied most of their texts from my Ultimate Stabat
Mater site, without asking, or without any reference. I asked them about that, but
"they had no idea how that could have happened".
- Stichting Stabat Mater
The Dutch "Stichting Stabat Mater" (Stabat Mater Foundation) comes from private
initiative early 1998. Its goal is the yearly performance of Stabat Mater compositions in
the period preceding Easter. These performances should lead to a long-lasting tradition, a
musical event that will be an important item on the cultural agenda. Therefore, the
founders aim for a high standard of artistic quality, to make sure of an intense musical
experience. Moreover, these performances are meant to contribute to the atmosphere of the
Passion time. That is the reason that the musical programs will be executed in churches,
especially those with excellent acoustical qualities.

Painting - Music
My friend Daisy Mottier from Switzerland presents her pictural expression of
the Stabat Mater, inspired by the contemporary interpretation of de Genevois
composer Jean-Claude Schlaepfer. Here you can listen to the music and
see the paintings!
