| Particulars
|
S.M.1988: The Via Crucis is composed for mixed
choir, cello, piano, celeste and percussion. The Stabat is the sixth of the 13 parts. The
music is characterized by a richly textured polyphony. S.M.1991: The composition is divided into eight sections. Lendvay is one of the few composers, that do not stick to the original text. Not only is part of the text omitted (stanzas 7, 10, 11, 12, 15, 16, 17, 18 and 19 are missing), but Lendvay adds two sections from a poem of Paul Verlaine, Sagesse II, that are sung in French by the soloist. The choir sticks to the Latin text. The first French section is sung by the soloist, while the choir simultaneously sings the Latin stanzas 8 and 9. The second French section (II) replaces the stanzas 15 through 19. |
| Textual variations | S.M.1988: Only the first two lines of Stanza 1 are
used. S.M. 1991: The "Vatican"-version of the text is used. |
