About the composer
Anna Ignatowicz was born in 1968 in Warsaw, Poland. She studied composition and piano
improvisation, graduating from the Frederyk Chopin Academy of Music in 1996. She also took
a course in Computer Music. In addition to composing music she is a teacher and writer.
Her main compositions are instrumental, frequently using unusual combinations of
instruments (pieces for two marimbas, for soprano saxophone and clavichord, for
harpsichord and organ), and especially percussion (Concerto breve, for percussion
and symphony orchestra, It is only time, for trumpet, percussion and tape, Thus
... Memory Loses, for solo percussion and tape). The Stabat Mater looks like an
outsider in her work, being written for a cappella choir.
It is noteworthy that this is the first female composer of a Stabat Mater in my
collection!

| Particulars | No clear division in parts can be noticed. The piece works in ascending notes to a climax in the third stanza. Then the music softens when the soprano comes in, and finally ends in a slow and soothing "Amen". An easy to listen to, and enjoyable little work. |
